9th WIP of 2012

Well, the only thing I tackled this week was some small projects that weren't even on my list.  Nothing wrong with that!  (Oh, and if you are looking for the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway, it is here)

The recent newsletter from my son's preschool mentioned a site to buy reusable snack bags instead of the kids bringing Ziplock bags.  Of course, I decided I could just make my own.

It was also one of the teacher's Birthdays so I pulled together some scraps of fabric and buttons and made this card for her (actually her Birthday was a few weeks ago, I just forgot to show the card.)

Today I have 7 Kona Cotton Solid fat quarters in an array of rainbow colors.  These brights just scream summer to me!

Giveaway will close May 25 at 6:00 pm MST.  International folks welcome.  I will pick a winner randomly on May 27.

Please be sure to have a way for me to contact you if you are a winner (either a visible e-mail on your profile page or leave one with your comment.)

8th WIP of 2012

As the weather has been warming up, my sewing progress as being slowing down.  Yet my mind is a constant flow of new projects...

If you follow along here, you may have seen a few pictures here and there of my little guy sporting his bucket hat I made for him.  He chose the fabrics.  And it's reversible!  Though I have yet to see him actually wear the striped side (unless I make him for a photo.)

Trying to fit as many vehicles as possible was probably the most challenging.  He loves it, that's all that matters!

It has been a while since I've shared what progress has been made on my granny squares...

I am about halfway done with the blocks.  My goal is to finish the top before June.  I haven't quite decided what I am going to do for the back yet, or whether I will quilt it myself or just send it in to my LQS.

My dear friend in Washington State had a baby girl two weeks or so ago which means...a baby quilt!  I have an idea of what I am going to do as well as fabrics.

Parent Appreciation Tea

Mother's Day is just around the corner, which means that today was the Parent's Appreciation Tea (a.k.a Mother's Day Tea -  they changed the name for those students who have single parents) that my son's preschool puts on.

The kids make the food themselves and  a little gift for their parent.  This year's gift was a bouquet of silk flowers.  Logan chose yellow and white for me.

Each child gives their parent a menu, we circle what we want, the kids go and put our plates and tea together and then serve us.  It is meant for us Moms  parents to relax, socialize and let someone else take care of us for a change.

When the parent's are served, then the child brings their own plate and picnics beside us.  A beautiful day with my cuties.

Run for the Zoo

This weekend was a busy one!  We had our usual errands and then picked up my packet for race day, Sunday.

While on my way to the packet pick up site,  I spotted a quilt shop and lounge that I had never been to before.  With such designers as Amy Butler, Sarah Jane Wright (too name a few) and some of the latest Moda fabrics; it was difficult to retain myself - good thing I chose to pick up my race day goods first - I may not have made it past the cutoff.

But I digress.  I had signed up six weeks ago to run a 5K.  All race proceeds went to the New Mexico Bio Park and Zoo.

Before I had my son, I ran a half marathon in Las Vegas, Nevada.  In between Logan and Aslyn, I ran another one in Albuquerque.  It had been three years since I had ran and felt that I was more than ready to get going with it again.  No excuses.

It was a hot gorgeous day in Albuquerque with roughly 2,000 people to run the 5K alone (there was also a half marathon, 10K, and 1 mile fun run.)

Like my cheering squad?  After the race Logan came up to me and said, "Mom, you ran fast!"  (Not really, but I appreciate his support.)  Both of these little squirts tried to join in the race too, I told them next year, if they wanted too,  I will sign them up for the kid's mile fun run.

Great family event, and a fun filled day at the zoo!
