WIP - Planning the Big Birthday Bash & A Giveaway

My little guy's 5th Birthday is tomorrow, so Saturday is his big birthday bash.  I'm calling it this for several reasons:

1. This is his first "real" birthday party with friends.  All of his other parties have been just us as a family.
2. I haven't thrown a party this big before.  We sent out 17 invitations and so far 15 kids are coming.

Speaking of invitations.  Are these not the cutest invites ever!  I've gotten lots of compliments on them.  I purchased them through an Etsy shop called onlysunshinedesigns.

Lots of sewing going on to get ready for the party.

When I made the last crayon roll, I said that I wanted to make them again - say for a Birthday party.  So here I am, whipping up 20 of these puppies.  These ones are a bit different in that I made them to fit 8 crayons and added a place for a small pad of drawing paper.

Besides crayon rolls, there are wooden train whistles, train puzzles, train bubbles, lots and lots of train cups, plates, an engine pinata...

And of course, we have to have a train cake!  I'm going to make 2 of them - one chocolate and one vanilla.

Still on my to do list - bunting!

So, how about a Happy Birthday Logan giveaway?  I let Logan help pick out a little something for you guys.

Five La Femme by Melissa Crowley for Robert Kaufman fat quarters.

To enter leave a comment on what Birthday activities you like to do (no matter if it's for you or a kids' party.) International entries welcome!

Giveaway will close January 23rd at 6pm MST.  I will pick a random number, make sure that I have an e-mail address for you!

Happy 33!

Today is my 33rd Birthday.  I awoke to such a beautiful morning...

Just a light dusting of snow this year.  The past couple of years, we had so much snow dump the day before or the day of my Birthday that we didn't even get off the ranch.  Which I am not complaining about, I LOVE  the snow.

We left work early to pick up my little boy from preschool and then go out for dinner (a real treat as we very rarely eat dinner out.)

What a great day!

Four Years Ago....

I welcomed this little guy into the world, four years ago.

I could go on and on about the type of boy he is and becoming, but instead I'm going to get right down to the celebration he had at school.

Logan's teachers had asked him last week what he was planning on bringing to school to share with the other kids.  He told them, "Tractor cookies."  From there the expectations rose.  Regular readers of this blog might remember that for his 3rd Birthday, we sent him to school with boxes of chocolate cow cookies we found (I don't even remember where now.)

I searched everywhere in Albuquerque for tractor cookie cutters, until finally realizing that my mission was a total failure.

Onto plan B...

On a piece of paper I drew a tractor shape and placed that on my dough, cutting around my template with a knife.  It.took.for.ever.

But seeing his face light up and then all the other kids' in the class - - totally worth it!

Aslyn's First Birthday!

Can you believe my little Princess Pea here turned one!?  This past year has gone so fast.

Happy Birthday!

Where are they taking my cake?

She was not fond of the crown....

but her brother sure enjoyed wearing it.

Yum!

Happy Birthday Logan!

Today Logan is 3 years old!  Can you believe it?

He had a party at school on Friday.  His teachers made him a crown to wear that said Logan and had the number three on it...

He brought these chocolate cow cookies to school to share with all his friends.  The kids "ate" it up!  They wanted the boxes read to them, they opened the boxes and excitedly exclaimed "cow cookies!!"  Then the cows would walk across the table saying, "moooooo."

As the class sang "Happy Birthday" to Logan, he quickly became shy with all the attention and wanted teacher Debbie to cuddle him.  When the attention and festivities were over, he was back to his normal self.

On Sunday, another Birthday party.  This time at Peter Piper's Pizza (kind of like another Chuck E Cheese's)but only for us and our "Albuquerque family."

Logan's ice cream cake!

As a new parent, struggling with sleep deprivation, dirty diapers, and days without showers; you never quite believe those people who tell you to savor every moment for soon they (your kids) will be grown.  Part of me always knew this.  I often say how the days blur together.  But as I sat there watching how much my baby has become a little boy, I understood a bit more exactly what they were saying.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY LITTLE MAN!!

30

Today, I am 30.

I always had this idea that my 30th Birthday would be some big shing-dig. A trip somewhere (you get in free at Disney parks on your Birthday) or a big surprise party with all my family and friends. Even as this day was approaching and I realized that there was not going to be anything I have mentioned above happening, I started thinking of other ways to celebrate. A day for me; shopping, having coffee, quiet time at the spa or a book store.

This morning I awoke and felt nonchalant, and a little blue, I admit. After all my 20's are over. I contemplated over what I have accomplished these last 30 years and found myself a little disappointed in the results. My husband says that I have accomplished more than so many others out there my age. But I feel like I should have done...more.

I have always heard that the 30's are the best years. This is the time when most have established thier career, bought their first house, are thinking about, trying, or have already started a family. People take you more seriously and you become more comfortable with who you are.

Today marks a new era for me. I know 30 is just a number, but I am determined to make this decade outshine the last!

Logan's Birthday!

We did not have a big party; there was really nothing extraordinary...

Just a simple, relaxing day (with cupcakes.)

Baby's First Birthday

As Logan's first birthday quickly approaches (Saturday); I find myself wondering what to do. I know that he will not remember this event; that it is also a celebration for the parents surviving the first year, but that does not mean that it can not be special.

It seems like the majority throw a birthday party or BBQ. However, since we do not have any family or close friends, who would we invite? Our co-workers and their families. Of course I didn't start thinking about all of this until today; so if we did do a party everything will be thrown together and guests invited at the last minute.

My husband and I already discussed having a cake and birthday candle. That way we can have a few pictures to put into Logan's first year scrapbook. (And the fact that I know if I don't send the grandparents pictures on his first birthday, there will be hell to pay!)

What are some the ways you celebrated your child's first birthday?
