It's completed! My scrappy stash quilt from the Ellison Lane Quilt A Long.
This quilt is 40 x 48 inches, with 6 monochromatic colored blocks in 5 rows.
I chose to lay my blocks in the same order as the colors of a rainbow.
For the back, a large piece of Kona Cotton solid in pale flesh. The binding is more scrappy goodness with half of it being leftover binding from other quilts! Can't beat that!
Usually when quilting a quilt, I wake up while everyone else is asleep so I can get it done without kids pulling on me and having to stop every two minutes to answer everyone's needs. This quilt, I did in lines without a care of how straight they were or how far apart. That way, if a kid decided to jump on my lap and "help", I wouldn't need to stress and pull out a million stitches.
Aslyn and I had such fun doing this photo shoot in our hay barn!
Our large hay bales were the perfect size to hang this quilt from. And when I was done taking pictures, a quick game of hide and seek (shh, Aslyn is hiding behind the corner of that haybale.)

14th WIP of 2012
A little sewing has been happening in my neck of the woods.
I've been working on this nesting box from the Zakka Style book by Rashida Coleman-Hale.
Every time I go to a fabric store, my son Logan picks out a fabric for his "stash". Our last trip he picked this fabric.
We recently decided that this fabric should become a new lunch box for him. After perusing my stash for an interior lining, he decided on the one below.

A Special Delivery
I am currently on vacation visiting family and friends in Washington State, but I wanted to share this as it is now officially delivered to my Mom.
This was my first attempt at a quilt this size - I chose to do the queen size granny square. In order to finish it in time, I did several days of marathon sewing, kicking the husband and kiddos out of the house.
And it is finished! Sorry for the blurry pics. :(

The majority of the fabrics came out of my stash. The sashing is Kona Meringue and the back is a solid I had in indigo (not sure the manufacturer.) Except for a line of more granny squares.
It is hard to tell in the pictures, but the border is done with 6 x 22 inch pieces of blues used in the granny square blocks.
A few more large quilts have been requested since I have been on vacation. More on that later!

10th WIP of 2012
A couple of projects were finished these past couple weeks.
First the baby quilt. Blogged about it here and here.
Second, the Zakka Sew Along Hand Warmers. Blogged about this here.

Almost have all my granny squares done! My goal was to finish the quilt top by the end of May - I think I said. Well, obviously that didn't happen! New goal; by the end of June!
And then there's my summer skirt I just started. I am using Manana in Clay from the Maya collection by Anthology Fabrics.

8th WIP of 2012
As the weather has been warming up, my sewing progress as being slowing down. Yet my mind is a constant flow of new projects...
If you follow along here, you may have seen a few pictures here and there of my little guy sporting his bucket hat I made for him. He chose the fabrics. And it's reversible! Though I have yet to see him actually wear the striped side (unless I make him for a photo.)
Trying to fit as many vehicles as possible was probably the most challenging. He loves it, that's all that matters!
It has been a while since I've shared what progress has been made on my granny squares...
I am about halfway done with the blocks. My goal is to finish the top before June. I haven't quite decided what I am going to do for the back yet, or whether I will quilt it myself or just send it in to my LQS.
My dear friend in Washington State had a baby girl two weeks or so ago which means...a baby quilt! I have an idea of what I am going to do as well as fabrics.

5th WIP of 2012
After (not) much consideration, I decided to jump on the granny square bandwagon.
I must have been really into blues when I started quilting 7 years ago because I have.a.ton of blue fabric. What better way to de-stash all those blues?
It is difficult to tell in the picture, but I am using Kona Meringue as the background. At first I thought that maybe I should have gone a shade darker in the yellows, but it will do.
Four down - many, many more to go.

WIP #14
Another Wednesday, another completed project! Can you believe it?
I know I kept saying I couldn't show the whole thing because it is a Christmas present for someone, but luckily it's someone little who will only peek if her mom let's her.
Almost every piece of this quilt (including the batting) came from my stash. The only thing purchased was the binding and I have no idea what it was. Just some gray and white from JoAnn's.
Speaking of binding, I have never used the technique that Jeni posted, I have always hand stitched my binding on. What a time saver her method was!
And the back....
Aww, look at that little helper? Originally I was going to do this photo shoot in our hay barn, but the day got away from me and before I knew it, the sky was dark. So I recruited him and Dad to hold it up for me. Of course, then our dog Biscuit had to admire and if you peek behind Logan there, Aslyn is trying to make her way into the scene.
A few more projects are getting underway this week. Yay!
Projects in progress:Kaleidoscope quilt (behind)
Skill Builder Sampler (behind)
Daisy chain ABC's sampler (on the letter 'J')
Husband's shirt
No progress: but getting there
Bottled Rainbow quilt (sorting scraps)
Princess Pea quilt
Quilt/Bind:Log cabin quilt
Currently on hold:Beatrix Potter quilt (working up design)
Barn quilt
This week's stats:Completed: 1
New projects: 0
In progress: 9

Kaleidoscope Fabric Arrived!!
The fabric is Modern Affair by Patricia Bravo for Art Gallery Fabrics.
I love the citrus-y colors! Friday is the day when I cut into all these juicy fabrics; however, I'm debating what to use as my background fabric. I thought turquoise would be fun but maybe too much going on? So white? I think I'm leaning more towards an ash gray like this:

Warm/Cool QA

I like the idea of separating your warm and cool colors to make a value quilt; and Jeni has a great refresher course on her blog about doing this. She even adds in fabric that will not work in either category and explains why.
The fabric I chose was just something I had in my stash. I had purchased the different fabrics years ago for a specific quilt, but as time went on, I found that I no longer was interested in making that quilt. So, there all this fabric sat, waiting to be used and admired.
I took several pieces out of the original stash as I didn't think they would have fitted very well in the project.
For example, at first look, I would more than likely throw this in my warm group. But after much thinking on the matter, I decided to take them out all together. I felt that adding these in would just throw off my balance.
On another note: I ordered my fabric for the Kaleidoscope quilt along. YAY!! Already I am anxiously waiting for it to arrive in my mailbox! I love getting fun mail!!

Kaleidoscope QA
You would think that with the amount of projects I need to work on that I wouldn't be silly enough to add yet another one. What can I say? I'm an addict.
So what is this new project you may ask? It's a quilt along {eek! silent excited scream to self} I have always wanted to participate in a quilt along and now I am!!
The Kaleidoscope quilt along is being hosted by Elizabeth at Don't Call Me Betsy. I'm really looking forward to this (can you tell?) as it is something that is usually out of my novice comfort zone. But as one who is not afraid of a challenge - I figured it would be perfect.
So, right now it's all about the fabric. I've been perusing fabrics to figure out what I want to use for this awesome quilt. As soon as I get it all together I will post them.
I can hardly contain myself!!
