WIP #5

Wednesday sort of snuck up on me this week...
Completed!  Logan's apron.  I lined the back in some skull Halloween print I had purchased on clearance at my local quilt shop. It had been sitting in my fabric basket waiting for a good little project to be used on.

It's hard to tell in the picture, but I kept toying with how to make the neck strap adjustable.  I finally settled on snaps placed at different intervals on the strap.

When I asked Logan if he liked his apron, "I do!  I do!  I do Mama!"  Then a jump into my arms where I received a big hug and - mwah!  a kiss on my cheek.  Ahh (sniff).

Projects currently working on: Lydia's Mom's apron - I spent little bits of free time yesterday on cutting out the pieces for this.  Lydia had a specific apron pattern (Kitchen Kouture - vintage tablecloth apron)  Obviously I am not using a tablecloth.

Other projects being worked on: I am so behind on my quilt alongs. They will receive more of the love and attention they deserve next!

Warm cool quilt along
Kaleidoscope quilt along
Skill Builder Sampler
Daisy chain ABC sampler
Quilting I Spy quilt

Projects on hold:
Double size Beatrix Potter quilt
Barn quilt

This week's stats:
completed: 1
in the works: 6

Basting with Kids

Here is what happens whenever I sandwich a quilt together and/or begin basting....

My now 3 year old son around 10-11 months of age

My "helpers"
Honestly.  Sometimes, I'm amazed that I get anything done.

**The I Spy quilt was completely relaid and basted after they went to bed and before they got up the next morning. ;)

Beatrix Potter Quilt. Ideas??

My little sister LOVES Beatrix Potter.  She always has.  Her and I shared a room while growing up; her side was filled with Beatrix Potter while mine was classic Winnie the Pooh.

The other day was her 30th Birthday, I asked her if there was anything special that she wanted.  Her reply, a double size Beatrix Potter quilt!

I, being the loving sister I am, wholeheartedly agreed to take on this project.  However, I have come to a roadblock.  I have no idea what the best blocks/patterns would be for this.

I went to the local quilt shop and looked at all the Beatrix Potter fabric to see if the wheels would start turning, nada.  I searched online, but everything I saw was better suited for a smaller quilt (i.e. crib size)

Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas?  I will keep racking the creative portion of my mind...

WIP #4

Here we go....

I have finished piecing the I Spy quilt and have it all basted ready to be quilted {yay!}

A sneak peek at the back

Of course, when I was all ready to get going on the quilting portion, I realized I didn't have any thread left that matched. Geez. So, for now it is hanging out until I can make a trip to the quilt shop.

I have had Lydia's (one of our ranch hand's wife) mom's apron on hold because I didn't have the fabric for it yet.  Lydia had asked me if I could make her mom an apron for a Christmas present (so I have some time on this but would like to get it done soon.)  I have never met her mom but I was told that her favorite color is red and she fancies white and red flowers.

I found this fabric and am still not quite sure if I even like it.  The fabric is Redwork Rendezvous by Alex Anderson for P&B Textiles.  I actually won a gift certificate for a quilt shop and used that to purchase this fabric; so I don't feel totally guilty for not loving it.

Projects still in the works:

Kaleidoscope quilt along
Warm/Cool quilt along
Skill Builder Sampler blocks
Apron for Logan
Lydia's mom's apron

Projects on hold:

Barn quilt
Daisychain ABC's sampler (saving for trip later this month)

Weekly stats:
Awaiting quilting: 1
In the works/ongoing: 6
On hold: 2
Completed: 0

Hey, maybe next week I'll actually have something completed!  ;)

What? No Ice Cream?

Our usual trip to town on Saturday included a stop to the barber shop for my husband, JP to get a haircut.  My little three year old son - who as many three year old boys do - has TONS of energy and just could not sit still.

Luckily right next door is good ol' 31 flavors, Baskin and Robbins.  So I gathered Logan and his sister up and on we went.  The shop was pretty crowded with people so we weaved our way in, out, and around the other customers, me blabbing away on all the different flavors, Logan trailing quietly behind.  I picked him up so he could get a better view.

When I set him back down on the floor I asked him, "Do you know what flavor of ice cream you would like?"

"No Mama."

"No? Should Mommy pick one out?"

"No Mama."

"Do you want any ice cream?"

"No Mama,"  and he proceeded to walk towards the door.

It was 90+ degrees outside.  Who wouldn't want a delicious, cold, ice cream cone?  Not my son, the little weirdo.

WIP #3

I was hoping to get more accomplished than I did during the three day weekend...

Let's break it down.

New project: Daisychain ABC's sampler.  This little project is coming with me on my trip to Washington State to visit family and friends later this month.  I figure it will be better to haul than a quilt.  When finished, it will hang in my daughter's room.

The sampler is a kit purchased from Alicia Paulson at Posie - rosy little things

Projects still in the works:
I Spy quilt
Kaleidoscope quilt along
Warm/Cool quilt along
Skill Builder Sampler blocks
Apron for Logan

Projects on hold:
Barn quilt
Apron for Lydia's mom

Stats:
New projects: 1
In works: 5
