Two Terrific Kids

It's undeniable.  I am spoiled with these two. 

Just this morning Aslyn, who has been very needy lately, would not take her morning nap so that I could take my shower.  A shower I desperately needed.

Logan awoke, crawled on my lap, and we talked a bit.  Finally, not being able to stand sitting here in my own filth a moment longer, I asked him if he would watch his sister while I took a shower.

"Uh huh Mama."

When I got all cleaned up and walked out, here were these two, playing away (picture above.) 

And when Logan figured I was ready enough to take over role of mom to his sister, I walked out of her room and found him here.  Stealing my cup of coffee I had just poured a moment before.

Then there is little Miss Princess Pea crawling (yep, crawling) her way towards me when she caught me snapping her picture. 

My two beautiful, happy children.  I am one lucky mom!

I'm In Trouble

Remember my projects list?  Well, I have scratched some off and added a bunch more.  One of them being this ADORABLE sampler.  Wouldn't this be gorgeous in Aslyn's room?  I don't know how to do crewel work, but I will learn!!

 I'm really into bright, cheerful, Spring-y fabrics lately.  When I first started quilting I leaned more towards your calicoes - which are timeless and therefore, I still love!  However, these days I see some bright fabric and my mind immediately races to what projects I could use it for.

More  fabrics I've been drawn too are your children's lines. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, Dr. Seuss, Spot, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, any of those have been catching my eye lately as well.  Probably because they use a lot of bright colors.

I don't know what I would use this for, but dang it's cute!

And I never thought I would say this in my life, food fabrics. I know!

I feel I could just pluck those peas right out of there and start munching on them.

All the endless possibilities.  I could just spend hours and hours (if I had them) looking at and planning for all the beautiful fabrics out there.  One thing I did - which I have never done before - is took out some graph paper and designed my own little quilt.  If ever Whenever I get to it, I have all the fabric in my stash - 1930's reproduction prints. 

Now, if only I could squeeze more time out of the day!!  (sigh...)

Easter Weekend 2011

We had a nice, quiet, relaxing weekend.  On Saturday, one of Logan's classmates, Emma, called and asked if he could come over to her house and dye eggs.  Well, Logan was pretty excited about this!  Since Emma started school at Cibola House, he is no longer the youngest and has made it his job to take Emma under his wing and show her the ropes. 

Even though the day was for the kids, us grown-ups had a good time too.

 The Easter bunny hid the beautiful eggs that Logan and Emma had dyed.  So Sunday morning Logan and Aslyn hunted them down in our backyard.

Sleeping Cannelloni

Back when Logan was first starting solids, I purchased two recipe books - "Top 100 Baby Purees" and "First Meals" both by Annabel Karmel.  "First Meals" has recipes from first tastes (6 months old) to family meals (for kids 3-7 years old.)

I hadn't tried any of the family meal recipes yet, so last night I thought it would be fun to make sleeping cannelloni.  One thing I discovered in New Mexico is that you can not find everything you need at one grocery store; however when the day of errands comes down to grocery shopping, we are all usually too tired to go to more than one stop.  So mine were actually sleeping manicotti.

When I first put the dish on the table, JP laughed and asked, "what the hell is this?"  I showed him the picture in the book.  Do you know what he said mine look like?  Dead scarecrows.

Logan didn't seem to care.  He gobbled his up right away.

Sleepy Children

There must be something in the air because I have kids falling asleep all over the house today.

Logan got up, came and gave me a hug, and a little later I found him here.  Curled up and fast asleep in the jogging stroller.

 Aslyn woke up, her and I played for a bit and now here she is.  Notice she is lying on somebody's quilt.



An Apron For Sarah

I have been busy, busy, busy trying to get my sewing projects caught up. On Sunday, I finally got Sarah's (my sister) half apron completed; I only told her I would make her one about three years ago.

The yellow fabric was some 1930's reproduction I had on hand.  I 'm not sure what it was called or who it was by.  I bought the green gingham and the wooden buttons at JoAnn's one day.  Pattern for the apron is called Kitchen Kouture and it is a Linda Flake design.

So, here it is, in all it's glory and magnificence!!  I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Our Trip to the Zoo
